PSC Golf from The Growling Swan
Monday, Sept. 21, Greenwood – Stableford
Twenty-one golfers arrived at The Growling Swan with an appointment to take the trip up Highway 331 and play the very popular Greenwood GC.
We played A & B nines, off the white tees and at 6,200 yards (approx.), with no run, it made it a tough day for all. Of course, as usual the tricky par 5’s sorted many out. The layout was in good condition and as always the greens provided a challenge.
(L-R) Steve Jones, Chris Stewart & Ron Gillett.
The weather was warm with no rain in sight but as the day got longer the lack of breeze made it somewhat uncomfortable. On return to ‘The Swan’ we saw many red faces and that had nothing to do with scores, more to do with lack of sunblock.
Martin Todd was on form on the day, with his trip to Japan seemingly not affecting his golf and he topped the podium with 38 points. One point back in second was Jim Groves on a count back over Steve Jones, who looked to have his putter working well.
1st Martin Todd (11) 38pts
2nd Jim Groves (12) 37pts
3rd Steve Jones (21) 37pts
4th John Anderson (27) 32pts
5th Chris Stewart (2) 31pts
Near Pins: A2 Martin Todd, A6 & B2 Steve Jones, B5 Alan Sanders
Long Putts: A9 Geri Crilly, B9 Fred Cuypers
Back at the Growling Swan, Russell Calcutt paraded charity dog ‘Deefa’ who gratefully received significant donations from the happy clan and they are thanked for their continued contributions. All ‘Deefa’ donations go to the PSC to be directed to projects to assist the needy children of Pattaya.
Thursday, Sept. 24, Pattaya C.C. – Monthly Mug/Stroke
A fantastic field of 30 spritely golfers gathered for the Growling Swan, September Monthly Mug event. The weather was perfect and the recent rains have greatly improved the golf course here, however the back nine was severely cored and proved to be a putting raffle. We played off the white tees today.
JJ Harney with Martin Todd.
Steve Jones and Ron Gillett enjoyed resounding wins in their respective grades, but it was the sublime skills of our 2-handicapper, Chris Stewart, that stood out from the rest. Chris earned the right to tap shoulders to fill his mug with victory refreshments after posting an impressive net 68.
John Anderson expertly scanned the scorecards and on a packed leaderboard the highly excited Stuart Rifkin and Peter Grey both snuck in to enjoy podium finishes.
