IPGC golf from The Links
Sunday, June 3, Green Valley – Stableford
Again only one fixture this week, and another good turnout for Green Valley. Today was hot and humid, with a strong breeze throughout, and with the greens being cored and top dressed earlier in the week, one would have expected scoring to be difficult.
However, one would have thought wrong, and with the fairly strong field making a mockery of the conditions, the standard scratch for the day was reduced to 69 and one category one player was even awarded 0.1 back for only shooting his handicap!
Peter Sumner.
On a day when over half the field shot their handicap or better, those that scored 37 or 38 points could be forgiven for thinking they had a chance of the prizes, but alas, this was not the case, as three players, all starting their final week of this visit, tied for the lead on 41 points.
Ger Lodge was the first to fall on the count back, managing only a paltry 20 points on the back 9, one behind his brother Ted. The (half) round of the day, however, went to Peter Sumner, who, after struggling to a measly 17 points on the front 9, returned in 2 under gross for an outstanding 24 points and first place.
There were five 2’s recorded, with the pot diluted between Ted Lodge (2), Ger Lodge, Russell Goldsworthy and Les Cobban.
1st Peter Sumner (8) 41pts
2nd Ted Lodge (11) 41pts
3rd Ger Lodge (18) 41pts
4th Jon Batty (8) 38pts
5th Alan Pilkington (9) 37pts
