PSC Golf from the Phantom Golf Society
Wednesday, May 4, Green Valley – Stableford
We had a very good field of 40 golfers signed up for the 11th Phantom Golf Cup, which was played at Green Valley with an excellent green fee rate of 700 baht negotiated by “The Donkey”. 10.40am was the earliest tee time we could get but it seemed to suit most and we got our first four-ball away about 10 minutes ahead of schedule in fine but hot conditions.
The golf course was in terrific condition, although some greens were a bit on the slow side but despite the recent lack of rain the fairways were mostly very green & lush.

Teeing off went very smoothly and the tenth group teed off right on time at 10.35am. The pace of the field was excellent and most groups finished their rounds in around four hours, with most golfers looking the worse for wear after the oppressive playing conditions which probably contributed to the fairly poor scores for many.
We had 2 flights with three prize places in each and a host of technical prizes to shoot for. There was also a special prize for combined A & B Flights on the third hole which was nearest the keg on the fairway, with the winner taking possession of the contents of said keg to be consumed later at Touch A Go-Go.
The A Flight winner was Brian Talbot with 38 points while last month’s A Flight winner, Peter Hynard, came second with 35. In third place was Mark “Coops” Cooper with 34 points.
B Flight was well won by Larry Gibb who scored 39 points, with Darren Boyle coming second with 36 and Tony “Captain” Cook third with 35.
The “nearest the keg” prize was won by big Phil Davies who, would you believe, does not drink but rest assured that Phil will take a bunch of mates down to Touch A Go-Go within the next few days to “empty the keg”.
A Flight (0-18)
1st Brian Talbot (14) 38pts
2nd Peter Hynard (14) 35pts
3rd Mark Cooper (13) 34pts
B Flight (19+)
1st Larry Gibb (21) 39pts
2nd Darren Boyle (20) 36pts
3rd Tony Cook (28) 35pts
It had been yet another successful monthly tournament with a good low season field and all enjoyed the golf course particularly at the very good price that we were able to obtain. We had a terrific buffet meal back at the Phantom Bar and thanks to Colin Davis of Colin’s Golf Bar for that and also many thanks to Christian Boysen and Neil Smith of the Phantom Bar for sponsoring the event.
We would also wish to thank Prince of India Restaurant, Colin’s Golf Bar and Hotel Dania plus my old mate Jason McDonald of Touch A Go-Go for helping us with sponsorship. Next month’s Tournament will be held at Burapha Golf Course on Wednesday, June 1st with a special green fee rate of 750 baht, so get in early for that one.
Note: The Phantom Golf Society welcomes golfers of any persuasion – low & high handicappers alike, female golfers and beginners.
