Jomtien Golf with the IPGC
Monday, March 20, Plutaluang – Stableford
The forecast for this region today was not looking too promising and there were rolling clouds as we approached the course. We teed off 20 minutes ahead of schedule and were playing the North and West nines with two divisions out and the cut set at 10-17 and 18+. The greens here today were in the best condition we have seen here for a long time not the quickest but very true.
Bob Comartin and Paul Butler both came in with 35 points each in the top flight, Bob edging the decision for top spot 7/6 over the last three holes. In third place was Dave Horne with 34 points.
In division 2, Alan Bissell beat Magne Gunnarson 15/14 after they both shot 31 points each and Steve Harris beat Curtis Hessler 16/13 for third after they both scored 29 points.
Near pins went to (Div 1) Paul Butler, Sid Crawley (2) and Andres Holder, and (Div 2) Alan Bissell, Steve Godfrey and Steve Harris.
Sid Crawley in division 1 and Magne Gunnarson in division 2 both birdied the lighthouse hole on the North course to record the only ‘2’s of the day.
The scores were low today and with no weather problems the caddies explained that on Monday and Fridays here the white tees are moved back towards the blue tees.
Wednesday, March 22, Eastern Star – Stableford
The equal cut in the two divisions today came at 8–16.7 and 17.3 + and the best score returned came in division 2, with Tony Thorne winning with 36 points. Colin Aspinall was second on 34 points and one point behind in third place was Joe Kubon.
Ian Speirs topped division 1 with 34 points and Jerry Sweetnam beat Wilf Latham on a 17/16 back-nine countback for second after they both came in with 33 points each.
Near pins were claimed by (Div 1) Bill Bertram, Nik Evans, Shaun McGrady and Jerry Sweetnam, and (Div 2) Steve Godfrey, Steve Harris and Josef Toner.
Shaun McGrady birdied the 17th and in division 2 there was a rollover to next Friday.
Friday, March 24, Pattavia – Stableford
An almost empty car park as we arrived here today and with five groups out, we teed off 20 minutes ahead of schedule. Standing on the first tee the course looked very green with manicured fairways.
Fred Temminick, in division 2, recorded the highest score of the day to win his flight with 39 points. Willy Van Heetvelde was second on 35 and Gary Lenske took third on 34.
South Africa’s Jerry Sweetnam claimed division 1 honours with 36 points and Paul Butler beat Jerry’s fellow countryman Andres Holder 19/15 on a back-nine count back after they both came in with 34 points.
Near pins went to (Div 1) Dave Horne, Terry Madsen and Jerry Sweetnam (2), and (Div 2) Theo Bahrt, Paul Sturgeon, Fred Temminick and Andres Van De Laan.
Andres Holder and Terry Madsen both birdied the fourth in the ‘2’s in division 1 while a rollover ensued in division 2 to the Emerald on Monday.
