The final of the 2012 BMW – B Grimm Thai Open Polo Tournament will take place this coming Saturday, January 21 at the picturesque Thai Polo & Equestrian Club in east Pattaya.
The Thai Polo Open is one of the most prestigious events on the Thai polo calendar, with teams from Southeast Asia vying for the Princess Cup. The tournament is a charitable event to raise funds for HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirinidhorn’s Chitralada Vocational School project.
Royal Pahang take on Thai Polo in one of the earlier group matches.
Play got underway on January 11 with nine teams featuring local and international riders taking part in a round robin three group format. The winners of each group and the best runner-up were due to play off in the semi finals on January 18.
Finals Day will be on Saturday and over 1,400 spectators are expected to attend, including, many VIPs, celebrities, diplomats, sports enthusiasts and businessmen.
They will enjoy the shopping opportunities and games at sponsors’ tents set amid the palm trees, pony rides for the kids, music by the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, as well as generous supplies of wine and food at the outstanding buffet lunch. BMW will showcase its latest vehicles available in Thailand, while La Martina will have its fashions and polo equipment on sale.
The day’s sporting activities will include a play-off to decide 3rd and 4th places, kids polo match and the Grand Final. This is followed by presentation of the Princess Cup and other prizes, a relaxing cocktail party and fireworks display.
Visitors are welcome to attend. There is no entry fee, although guests are asked to donate 500 baht for charity, which also entitles them to enjoy the sumptuous buffet lunch.
