BANGKOK, Nov 2 – Thailand kicked off their FIFA Futsal World Cup 2012 campaign with an impressive start, beating Costa Rica 3-1 at Bangkok’s Huamark Indoor Stadium and moving to the top of Group A.
FIFA Futsal World Cup 2012 officially commenced Thursday with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra presiding over the opening ceremony of the tournamnet which would end on November 18.
After the opening ceremony, the host team opened strongly against the CONCACAF champions with Keattiyot Chalaemkhet, Suphawut Thueanklang and Jirawat Sornwichian all on target as Victor Hermans’ side made a perfect start to their FIFA Futsal World Cup bid.
One goal from Costa Rica came from Diego Zuniga who sent a magnificent left-foot shot flashing into the top corner.
Thailand have set an early lead in Group A with a 3-1 win over Costa Rica.
Earlier in the Group A match, Paraguay and Ukraine opened FIFA’s Futsal World Cup with 3-3 draw.
In Group C at Nakhon Ratchasima’s Chatchai Chunhavan Arena, Portugal sealed a comfortable 5-1 win over Libya.
In the other Group C match, defending champions Brazil beat Japan 4-1.
