Thailand to host SEA Games in 2025

Thailand would offer to host the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) and the ASEAN Para Games in 2025.

The cabinet resolved that Thailand would offer to host the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) and the ASEAN Para Games in 2025.
Deputy government spokeswoman Traisuree Taisaranakul said the cabinet on Tuesday agreed to spend 2.05 billion baht to host the regional sports events.

The budget will be funded with 1.68 billion baht from the state’s budget, 200 million baht from privileges obtained from the games, 20 million baht from spectators’ tickets, 134 million baht from the registration fees of athletes and their staff in SEA Games and 16 million baht from the registration fees of athletes and staff in the ASEAN Para Games.



“It is Thailand’s turn to host the games. The last time Thailand hosted the Games was in 2007 in Nakhon Ratchasima. Thailand will benefit from the organization as it will have opportunities to present its positive image, show its comprehensive readiness to international tourists and investors, generate income from the spending of visitors and about 12,000 athletes, staff, representatives of sports organizations and observers, and present its leadership in tourism and sports,” the deputy government spokesman said.



For the venues of the games, the government eyed sports facilities in Chiang Mai, Chon Buri, Nakhon Ratchasima, Bangkok, Phuket, Songkhla and provinces facing the Andaman Sea namely Krabi, Trang, Phangnga, Ranong and Satun, Ms Traisuree said. (TNA)
