Thailand’s wheelchair fencer Saysunee Jana claimed her second gold medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games on Wednesday (Sep 4), overcoming China’s Xiao Rong 15-11 in the women’s foil category B final. The triumph followed her earlier victory in the women’s saber category B event, where she narrowly defeated Xiao 15-14. However, her quest for a third medal ended when Thailand’s team fell to South Korea 42-45 in the round of 16 of the women’s team foil event the day after.
In athletics, wheelchair racer Pongsakorn Paeyo took silver in the men’s 100-meter T53 race, finishing in 14.66 seconds, while Saudi Arabia’s Abdulrahman Alqurashi claimed gold. Pongsakorn’s Paralympic record of 14.20 still stands. Earlier in the Games, Pongsakorn won gold in the men’s 400m T53, Thailand’s first gold in Paris. Fellow Thai athlete Athiwat Paeng-Nuea also earned silver in the men’s 100m T54, narrowly missing gold to Mexico’s Juan Pablo Cervantes Garcia.
Thailand secured a bronze in para table tennis, with Yuttajak Glinbancheun claiming his third medal of the Games after losing to Germany’s Thomas Schmidberger in the men’s singles MS3 semi-finals. Phisit Wangphonphathanasiri is also guaranteed a bronze after reaching the men’s singles MS8 semi-finals, and Thailand earned another bronze in boccia, with Pornchok Larpyen and Nuanchan Phonsila defeating Canada 6-1 in the mixed pairs BC4 event.
