September PAGS Tournament

Tuesday, September 26 presented clear skies with a light breeze for the 108 keen players at PAGS monthly tournament, held over the Mountain & Lakes combination at Phoenix Gold.

With some overnight rain, the decision was made to have preferred lie on the closely mown surfaces, to help avoid an undeserved mud ball.  Overall the course was in good condition and playing to its correct yardages on most holes.

Most times there is generally a standout performer or two on the day but this month saw more of an even spread across the field.  The Ladies winner was Samorn (H/cap 21) with an outstanding score of 43 points as well as a technical prize.  Lek Wilson (25) with a solid 41 points picked up second place in the Ladies division on count-back over Soorat.

Todd Doss (+1) led the way in A flight with his solid 37 points after a back-nine of 31, to shoot 70 off the stick and take the Low Gross honours.  Tobias Garneij (12) edged Thankiat Keapawee 21/20 on count-back for second, after both signed for 36 points but Thankiat had the consolation of a hole-in-one on Lake 2.

B flight was won by Phil Davies (14) with 38 points, one clear of Donal McGuigan (20) while the bronze medal position went to Hugo Jonserud (13) with 36 points after a series of count-backs over Dave Shannon and Dennis Paul.

C flight saw the top spot go to Pierre Zbinden with a day’s best for the men of 40 points to go with his long putt prize on Mountain 5.  A count-back was required to separate second from third, with Adam Hall (25) getting the nod over Marco Charvolin (29) 20/19, after both signed for 36 points.

Special mentions go out to Michael Lohse for his 2 Long Drives in the under 54 division, and Bob Watson for his assortment of technical prizes, but collecting only the daily maximum of 2 prizes.
