Monday, Nov. 19, Eastern Star – Stableford

We played Eastern Star for the first time in months and it was in good condition and playing well.  We only had two groups today and were away early in good weather but that was to change as we made the turn as the storm coming at us was looking very bad to say the least.

The first group got a bit damp on the tenth green and carried on to the 11th, playing that hole with just a little rain, but the guys behind stopped as it was raining very hard.  When we got to the green there was nothing at all and on the 12th the sun was shining but it was still raining like hell on the 10th and 11th.  Quite weird really!

John Locke and Cap’t Bob. John Locke and Cap’t Bob.

It was goodbye today to Steve Compton who is going back to the States for a few months, I think to sharpen up his game as 22 points nearly got the wooden spoon, but not quite as that dubious honour went to Kev Wild with 21 points.  The winner was the Capt himself, Bob Philip, with 37 points and coming second was Bob Pearce on 33 points, then John Locke and Mike O’Brian with 31 points.

Wednesday, Nov. 21, Green Valley – Stableford

Playing our regular venue of Green Valley today, which was as usual in great condition, although we still played winter rules, i.e. lift and clean on the fairways.  There were four groups with no ‘2’s being recorded today so all the loot went on prizes.

The Aussie boys took the honour’s with Linsay taking first place with 36 points on a count back from Kiwi Bill.  Davo took third with 35 points and coming in forth was George Barrie on a count back from Jim Peachy.  We had to say goodbye to Jim today as he is going back to Townsville to the heat.  Take care mate!

George Barrie’s new golf clubs are doing the trick with George being in the money on two outings.  It was stated at the bar that out of our leading group there was only one golfer who hit a par 3, no wonder there were no ‘2’s from that group.

Friday, Nov. 23, Plutaluang – Stableford

It was the Navy at its best on Friday as we played the West and North courses.  While the West side is not everyone’s favourite there was nothing wrong with the condition of the course apart from it being a bit sloppy in places, but playing from the white tees it is a long way round.

The worst score of the day came from a good friend of mine who is here on his pilgrimage from the Isle of White – It was a round you would like to forget mate but 14 points total must have been a hard day at the office.  George, it’s about time those new club’s lost some of their shine but having just 20 points was a bit too much, you can’t blame them for that score.

The winners today were third place Bob Pearce with 34 points, second was Jeff North with 35 and coming first was the Capt with 36 points.

There were no ‘2’s again today – that must be some sort of a record, three games of golf with 60 something golfers and not a ‘2’ among them.

Note:  The Billabong Golf Bar is situated on the Mabprachan Lake on the dark side.  Just call in and put your name down on the list or give Bob a call on 082 204 3411.  We play Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
