PSC golf from The Golf Club
Monday, Jan. 20, Green Valley (white tees) – Monthly Medal
1st Geoff Doody (26) 37pts
T2nd Sonny Crawford (9) 36pts
T2nd Chuck Anderson (9) 36pts
3rd Adrian Vandenbruek (15) 35pts
36 golfers went to our Monday venue of the fabulous Green Valley and were greeted with perfect golfing weather once again. The course is super-busy these days as 20% of the population of Korea is here. So much for everyone cancelling their flights because of the Bangkok demonstrations!
‘Wild’ Bill Eyles relaxes al fresco back at The Golf Club.
We have our good buddy Sonny Crawford back in town and staying and playing with us for the next few weeks. Sonny plays off 9 and today shot his handicap, and coincidentally Chuck Anderson who also plays off 9 also shot the same score, so an ultimate tie for 2nd for the single digit lads.
Adrian Vandenbruek took third spot on the podium, but first place went to one of our higher handicappers who plays with us just about every Monday and is off 26! Congrats to our stalwart Geoff Doody who came good on the day and got his timing right for the victory. We don’t get to see much of Geoff and Cathy as they are on the Darkside, but appreciate their support and participation. Wish I had a photo for you!
Wednesday, Jan. 22, Treasure Hill (white tees) – Stableford
1st Bill Eyles (24) 33pts
T2nd Phil Smedley (12) 30pts
T2nd Peter Wilson (8) 30pts
This is one of the tougher golf courses in the area, and playing to 6,400 yards makes scoring well here very difficult. As you will see, nobody could shoot better than a 33 and when you also throw in the windy conditions on this narrow track it does make for a frustrating day.
Nevertheless, a good time was had by all but as our Golf Captain said, “it was a hard day at the office”. Condition of the golf course was pretty good all round and once again the high season weather was just ideal. Management are continuing with the improvements at this Saha Group facility and it is being groomed to a wonderful condition for the summer to come.
Sonny Crawford.
We had a tie for 2nd place today with Peter Wilson shooting the same as our trusty Captain, Phil Smedley who were both on 30 points. The “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner” (as Brad would say) award went to none other than ‘Wild’ Bill Eyles with 33 points on the card. Glad to see Billy playing well and turning in some winning scores these days!
Friday, Jan. 24, Mt. Shadow (blue tees) – Stableford
1st Peter Rogers (21) 35pts
2nd Bill Eyles (24) 31pts
3rd Ken Aihara (3) 30pts
This place needs water! The course is now dry as a bone so if you like tight lies then this is the golf course for you. Sure, you get a decent run on the ball, but the already difficult greens have now become just treacherous. This is such a great layout though I would still recommend you play here, and at a high season rate of 850 baht green fee it is such good value for us.
Peter Rogers had no trouble at all here, so yes, it can be done! Peter had a great day with 35 points and blew away the field as the next down the ladder was Wild Bill Eyles on 31. Kenny Aihara was shocked to find himself in the frame on a card with only 30 points on it, and Ken was in for a surprising third place. Ya just never know with this game!
