PSC Golf from Siam Country Resort
Tuesday, August 30, St. Andrews – Stableford
On Tuesday we made a rare outing to St. Andrews, one of the best courses in this area, but unfortunately, with compulsory carts, so not on our regular roster. Our caddies today were all capable but, when you consider the size of the Green Valley golf complex it is surprising that the caddies are so poorly attired; they wear what appears to be a couple of potato sacks dyed a sickly mauve.
The course was perhaps not in its best shape due to recent heavy rains, but all enjoyed the track, and despite its uncommon layout even the first timers here posted some reasonable scores. Paddy Devereux and Neil Harvey were neck and neck going to the last hole, with Paddy (34 points) claiming second place over Neil. But it was Stuart Banks who turned in one of the most unusual winning cards you are likely to see; with 5 points after six holes and six blobs in total he finished with 36 points to take first spot.
Thursday, Sept. 1, Khao Kheow – Stableford
Thursday it was back to Khao Kheow which was in its usual good condition. We started on C, which was playing fairly tamely with several players scoring in the 20’s, but the back nine (A) showed its teeth, with one of the area’s toughest par 3’s and the drive on the par 5 17th claiming plenty of victims in its challengingly positioned creek.
Jonathan Pratt started with some dream golf – 2 under par after 6 holes but a couple of wayward drives crashed his round. Again it was Paddy Devereux and Neil Harvey vying for first place with Paddy winning out by a shot with 34 points.
Note: Siam Country Resort, Restaurant & Bar is located just off Siam Country Club Rd, after going under the arch past the 7/11, turn right after 50 meters, with the venue on the left another 200 meters along. Golf from here is played on Tuesday & Thursday, with the Resort hosting prompt presentations on both days. As a PSC affiliated venue we welcome all golfers.
