Monday, June 8, Bangpra – Stableford

The rain poured down as we sat at The Phantom Bar awaiting our departure but slowly and surely it eased and we drove to Bangpra in drizzling rain as the skies cleared.  With a healthy 4 groups on the starting sheet our first group got away slightly earlier than our 10.00am tee time.

The course was in good condition although a bit wet and once again the greens were somewhat slower than usual here.  We did get more rain during the course of our round but nothing bad enough to interfere with play and our rounds were completed in around four hours having not seen one monkey all day.

Once again it was one of our dear Thai ladies, Thientong Charoenrung (19 point back nine), who emerged the winner after a count back verdict over Aussie Steve Truelove (16 point back nine) in second, with both golfers scoring 36 points.  Another count back was needed to determine third & fourth places with 2 golfers on 32 points and it was Dave Neal (14 point back nine) who secured third spot from Lorraine Percy (11 point back nine) in fourth place.

Wednesday, June 10, Treasure Hill – Stableford

Just the three groups for the journey to Treasure Hill to take advantage of their Sports Day rate of 600 baht and what excellent value it was.  Our expert Phantom Golf bus driver Christian “Schumacher” Boysen expertly made his way through the heavy traffic on 331 and we were at the course in 45 minutes.

The course was practically deserted and in very good condition, with well kept fairways & greens and will be a worthy venue for our next monthly tournament on Wednesday, July 1.

Peter Blackburn.Peter Blackburn.

Yours truly was relegated to the last group, which was no problem but as I decided to walk the course and it was very, very hot our group was somewhat behind the others but still we finished our round in about four hours & fifteen minutes.

Slow as I may have been and tiring badly at the end, an 18 point back nine saw your scribe finish as the winner on count back over Steve Truelove (16 point back nine), both of us scoring 36 points each.  Dave Fletcher once again had a podium finish and took third with 35 points.

We must thank Birthday Boy Dave Neal for kindly sponsoring the nearest the pin.

3rd Dave Fletcher (28) 35pts

Friday, June 12, Eastern Star – Stableford

Heading down south once more on a Friday but this time our destination was Eastern Star and our five groups, combined with Lewiinski’s three groups, represented a very good showing.  Our driver & navigator decided to take us on a “scenic” route to the golf course (they took a wrong turn” but we arrived there in good time and teed off after the Lewiinski golfers.  The weather was fine but hot and the course was somewhat dry but the greens were good so playing conditions were fine.

Dave Fletcher continued his good form and won the day with a creditable 35 points and a count back was needed to determine second & third as there were 2 golfers with 33 points.  Thomas Nyborg (navigator, with 18 points on the back nine) won that particular tussle and finished second ahead of your writer, Peter Blackburn (17 point back nine) in third place.

In fourth place was Christian Boysen (driver) on 32 points and there was a “log jam” of contenders for fifth spot with four players having 31 points.  The resultant count back saw Jorn Finnerup (22 point back nine) take the last spot, with Thientong Charoenrung (18), Andrew Purdie (14) & Rocky Lawson (13) all missing out.

1st David Fletcher (28) 35pts

4th Christian Boysen (13) 32pts

5th Jorn Finnerup (24) 31pts
