Another great day of golf at Green Valley and we had our buddy Courtney Bailey visiting us from his teaching post in Cairo for a well deserved golf break.

The story of the day was once again Billy Eyles and his dominance of this track over the last 2 months.  He is now down to 19 and continues his run of good golf here.  The rest of us can only wait until he runs out of steam!

TGC regulars Dave Ferris, Nick Handscombe and Mark Tilden also played well today and rounded off our podium.

Wednesday, Jan. 7, Mt. Shadow (white tees) – Stableford

1st Kenny Aihara (5) 33pts

2nd Nick Handscombe (12) 31pts

3rd Athol Reid (8) 31pts

Oh dear, you know it was a tough day when a 33 wins it.  Kenny Aihara could hardly believe his luck, but came in off the van with his head down and not a positive body position.  Little did he know that his 33 points would actually be the best of the field!  As usual, it was those Mtn. Shadow greens that took their toll with 3 and even 4-putt greens on most cards.

We paid 1,050 for green fee and caddy, which is a great price for this golf course in the high season.  The weather was perfect and we had no hold ups for our round.

Handsome Nicky Handscombe done good with a 31 that tied visiting Scotsman Athol Reid.  Athol is in the most fortunate position of having to live in a pretty little village called St. Andrews.  We are privileged to have him visit us to play golf here.  At least we have the better weather!

Friday, Jan. 9, Eastern Star (white tees) – Stableford

1st Peter Rogers (23) 39pts

2nd Billy Eyles (19) 34pts

3rd Phil Smedley (10) 31pts

I am happy to report there were positive comments on the condition of Eastern Star.  This Robert Trent Jones, Jr. track is a challenging layout and has suffered in the past.  Hopefully they will maintain this course to the condition it deserves.

It is a lovely but difficult golf course with fingers of water, hidden from the tee box view, that can trap the first-time golfer.  Keep asking your caddy “Nahm, mai?” to guide you through the hazards here.  Even the greens were reported to be quick and smooth.

Great to see Peter Rogers give it his best and rewarded with a first place finish.  I am sure his striking outfit was a big help.  Peter beat the field by a whopping 5 strokes!  Billy Eyles continued his purple patch with a second place and Captain Phil was third on 31.  Thanks again for herding the cats Phil!
