Tuesday, Dec. 1, Khao Kheow – Stableford
This is the first name on the program every month for one good reason – it is a great course! On this day we had a good turnout and were soon signed in and off the first tee a little early.
The test for the day was to be the C & B nines in that order and off we went with a strong wind around us. The course was in good condition and as we were playing off the yellow tees some of the shorter hitters would find the going hard, but it was reasonably dry so we got plenty of run.

The greens looked really fast and in very good condition but played slower than usual here. This is a course where if you make a mistake you get punished and seemingly all the players had a hard time. And as we went on and the day got hotter it became a real fight.
Back early in Pattaya we got on with the results just as quick. In the A Flight, 0 to 18, the winner was Brian Gabe with 34 points ahead of a count back on 32 that saw Tom Herrington in second, Takeshi Hakozaki in third and Richard Kubicki just missing out.
In the B Flight we had a count back for first on 34 points that saw Tom Cotton take the top spot ahead of Carole Kubicki in second. In third was Jim Ferris with 32 points.

After our last trip up the 331 it was with some trepidation that 20 hopefuls met at our golfing home, The BJ Holiday Lodge, for breakfast and transport arrangements for the days outing to Greenwood. Not only were we thinking of long stretches of road works underway on Hwy 331, there was a light drizzle. However, off we went and by the time we reached the course the rain had all but stopped and the sky was looking promising.

The check in was swift and all enjoyed the special packages currently on offer, 1,150 THB with a cart or 950 THB to walk.
So under clearing skies we were soon off to negotiate our way around the well manicured, but wet “B” and “C” nines. With no carts allowed on the fairways and ‘ball-in-hand’ in effect the longer white tees were selected. With little or no roll on the fairways and greens running at a good speed, the course had the advantage his day. Now, would the golfers take the challenge of the long and wet conditions and turn in some respectable scores?
Play moved along at a reasonable pace and soon all cards were in, the transport loaded up and back through the road construction and Friday holiday traffic to BJ’s for a late lunch and the results.
With two flights split at handicap 18, and considering the conditions, we certainly did have respectable scores. Congratulations to both Landis Brooks and recent returnee, Torsten Bischoff for turning in the best of the day for their respective flights.
