PATTAYA, Thailand – The Mabprachan Golf Society had an eventful week with two outings that showcased both the challenges and camaraderie of the group. On Christmas Eve, the golfers teed off at The Emerald Golf Course under sunny skies and a strong breeze, creating a pleasant but tricky day on the course. The fairways, resembling a savannah with their yellow grass and dry spots, provided good roll but presented striking challenges.
Despite the tough conditions, Bob Edwards delivered a consistent performance, scoring 35 stableford points to claim victory. Alan Tookey followed as runner-up with a solid 33 points. At the other end of the spectrum, Theo Schroeder narrowly edged out Mark Bromwich in the fight for the “spoon.” Near-pin honours went to Alan Tookey and Allan Cassin, who displayed precision on the par-3s. Results: 1st Place: Bob Edwards (10) – 35 points. 2nd Place: Alan Tookey (13) – 33 points.
After the presentation, the group celebrated Willem Lasonder’s birthday with a delicious buffet organized by Don. The celebration lasted well into the evening, filled with good food and great company.
Two days later, on Thursday, December 26, the society headed to the stunning Bangpakong Riverside Golf Course. The course, in pristine condition, provided a picturesque and challenging setting for the day’s competition. Cloudy skies and a gentle breeze kept the temperature pleasant, while the longer journey proved worthwhile for the group.
The back nine seemed to favour most players, leading to impressive scores. Neil Harvey was in exceptional form, posting 39 stableford points to secure first place. Allan Cassin claimed second with an excellent 37 points. Meanwhile, the spoon contest saw Mike Mallot narrowly edge out Willem Lasonder on a countback.
Near-pin winners included Bob Edwards, Allan Cassin, and Maurice Paradis, showcasing their accuracy on the greens. Results: 1st Place: Neil Harvey (26) – 39 points. 2nd Place: Allan Cassin (12) – 37 points. Both outings highlighted the group’s resilience, skill, and enduring camaraderie, making for a memorable week on the greens.
