Travellers Rest Golf Group
There I was, thinking I was being super efficient by getting the weekly report for week ending Saturday October 19 off to press by the Friday evening, only to find out a couple of days later that the TRGG had in fact played a hastily arranged competition on that Saturday. So this week’s report starts off with the results for the previous Saturday, clear as mud I hear you say.
Saturday, Oct. 19, Mountain Shadow – Stableford
So Saturday, the impromptu competition, was held at Mountain Shadow and resulted in yet another closely fought result with John Sarcasmo only just finishing ‘King of the Heap’ from Fergus Brennan and Derek Thorogood in second and third, the latter two only being separated after a count back.
Jim Sykes.
1st John Sarcasmo (22) 37 pts
2nd Fergus Brennan (13) 36 pts
3rd Derek Thorogood (16) 36 pts
Monday, Oct. 21, Eastern Star – Stableford
Monday heralded the start of a very, very wet week. Thunder, lightning and a deluge for a couple hours most days lead to that dreaded golfer’s disease, plugged balls.
At Eastern Star on that Monday I had my best front nine for a year only to be completely stymied on the 12th hole by losing my ball in the middle of the fairway and having to return and play the shot again, only for the wheels to completely fall off. Returning to the Clubhouse I found I was not the only one to suffer.
It was no surprise to find that 30 points was good enough to win the competition, in fact the top three all finished on the same score.
1st Jim Sykes (10) 30pts
2nd Michael Maguire (19) 30pts
3rd David Booth (14) 30 pts
Tuesday, Oct. 22, Crystal Bay – Stableford
On Tuesday at Crystal Bay (B and C courses) the story was the same, although the bad weather held off to late afternoon when the course became waterlogged in places and made good scoring almost an impossibility.
Kim Scadden.
Derek Thorogood faired the best with Ted Senior and David Booth in close order behind.
1st Derek Thorogold (16) 33pts
2nd Ted Senior (15) 33pts
3rd David Booth (14) 33pts
Thursday, Oct. 24, Phoenix – Stableford
Thursday and it was off to Phoenix as usual for the TRGG to play Lakes and Mountain courses. Kim Scadden headed the field finishing in front of Derek Thorogood and Mod Chaviraksa.
1st Kim Scadden (18) 37pts
2nd Derek Thorogood (16) 35pts
3rd Mod Chaviraksa (12) 35pts
Good luck to all you golfers for the coming week and if you would like to play a round of golf with the TRGG, please phone Fergus Brennan on 086 056 7019 or pop into the Ned Kelly Bar in Soi Lengkee and add your name to the weekly lists, which are posted on the notice board.
