IPGC Pattaya Golf Society
On Monday, 7th November the Pattaya Golf Society visited distant Treasure Hill to play a stableford competition in two flights from the white and yellow tees, with the divisional cut coming at fifteen and under. The course continued to be in fine condition and as such is a layout which golfers relish or otherwise. It was designed with course management in mind and those who can manage that will do well.
In the second flight Larry Gibb improved his game to take third place with 30 points whilst Bryan Barrell and the returning Martin Hoblyn shared the win with 33 points each. For both it was a rare visit to the top of the podium and they are to be congratulated on their performance.
In the top flight visitor Steve Truelove finished third on 31 points, a couple behind runner-up Paul Butler. The winner was the one golfer who loves playing the course, Dave Edwards and his 37 points was testimony to his management skills.
Richard Bannister secured the only birdie ‘2’ of the day, on the short sixth hole and Larry Slattery enjoyed the consolation beer in the non-winners’ draw.
The lady trumps the field
Wednesday, 8th November may have been an important date in USA history but nothing beats Bangpra with the Pattaya Golf Society for excitement, tension and intense interest. The course was in excellent condition and a sharp shower mid-round did nothing to spoil the party as the five groups toiled in humid conditions. Scores were on the low side and the prediction mid-round that 34 points may well be good enough proved to be an accurate assessment.
In third place were two golfers, Adrian Rodgers and Erik Anttonen with 31 points each, and Erik thought his chances had gone after the rain delay because of his dislike of wet fairways, shirts and shoes. In second place was Roger Rees with 32 points leaving the only lady in the field, New Satita, to take control with 34 points, proving that when the others go low she goes high!
The ‘2’s pot was shared by Dave Edwards and Adrian Rodgers after their efforts on the twelfth and eighth holes respectively. Wayne Peppernell received the boss’s beer, winning the consolation draw.
Fair shares at Khao Kheow
The Pattaya Golf Society took its largest field for a few months to Khao Kheow on Friday, 11th November to play a stableford competition on the C and B nines, from the yellow tees. Conditions were generally quite good but the C greens were a little “woolly” whilst the B greens were running much better. Good putters in the group would generally find the inconsistencies frustrating and as a result scores were average at best.
The field was divided into two flights, cut at fifteen and under and in the second division Larry Slattery and John Mason ended well on the podium behind Brian Jensen who won with 36 points. In the top flight Englishman Peter Wilson tried to hold back a Danish invasion with 36 points to share the win with Christian Boysen. Sharing third place were Jacob Cummings and Svend Hommell on 35.
There were two ‘2’s on the day, both by Adrian Rodgers on B3 and B8 and the consolation non-winners’ beer went to the organiser Mr Len for whom the first tee had been a nightmare of queries, group changes and rule notifications. Wordsmith John Mason found the perfect way to describe such conditions – “Scandimonium”. The Consise Oxford English Dictionary has been duly informed. Wonderful mate!
