PSC Golf from the Phantom Golf Society

Monday, Oct. 26, Bangpakong – Stableford

We departed The Phantom Bar at 8.15am for the longer drive to Bankpakong Riverside and found ourselves at the golf course just 54 minutes later.  Our tee time was 10.00am so we had time for a few practice putts and on a glorious Monday morning we sent our first of 3 groups away right on time.

The golf course was in great shape with lush fairways and well presented greens (maybe a bit too slick for the Reverend) and with a Thai 3-ball in front of us the going was a bit slow but we managed to complete the round in just over four hours.

Steve Truelove.

One of my playing partners, ‘Big’ Steve Truelove, had his best ever round of golf in Thailand and was the winner with 44 points after shooting 71 off the stick.  His first eight holes were completed in par before he capped off an outstanding front side by chipping in for eagle on the ninth, and he continued the same consistency for the rest of the round.

Christian “Psycho” Boysen returned to form and finished second with 43 points and your scribe, Peter “Blacky” Blackburn, was third with 40 points.

1st Steve Truelove (7) 44pts

2nd Christian Boysen (14) 43pts

3rd Peter Blackburn (14) 40pts

Near Pins: 4th – Steve Truelove, 16th – TorbenLindgaard

Long Putts: 18th – Ed Wyckoff

Wednesday, Oct. 28, Burapha A & B – Stableford

With a four-ball from Colin’s Golf Society joining us it gave us 4 groups to play one of our favorite courses, Burapha, and with a tee time of 9.50am we got their with plenty of time to relax and have a few putts.

A & B nines were the combination for the day, which suited us as we have been playing C & D for the last few months.  Our first group, a three-ball got away on A1 five minutes early and with the groups ahead travelling quite well we were able to maintain a very good pace.

Colin Davis.

We welcomed old friend Bill McGarvie from Canada who is here for a month and he celebrated his first time at Burapha with a nice birdie on the first to match my 3 inch tap-in birdie on the same hole.  Our third player, Steve Truelove, had to settle for a par but it was a good start to the round.

Not much to say about the condition of the golf course as it was, as ever, in excellent condition with the fairways lush and the greens beautifully prepared.  It was a very enjoyable round of golf and was finished in the terrific time of three and a half hours.

Colin “Donkey” Davis stole the show by winning with a fine 42 points and Torben Lidgaard came second after scoring 39.  Christian Boysen continued his good form by finishing third with 38 points and Mogens Mellander was fourth on 37.

1st Colin Davis (19) 42pts

2nd Torben Lindgaard (31) 39pts

3rd Christian Boysen (14) 38pts

4th Mogens Mellander (30) 37pts

Near Pins: A3 – Colin Davis, B8 – Dipty

Long Putts: B9 – TorbenLindgaard

Friday, Oct. 30, Silky Oak – Stableford

It was a fine & sunny Friday morning as we headed off to the Green Valley complex to play the lovely Silky Oak golf course.  This layout is still somewhat a “work in progress” but with a full eighteen holes in operation it is now one of our favorites, particularly as the high season green fee price is very reasonable – other local courses please take note!

Christian Boysen.

We had 3 groups on the day and our first one teed off 10 minutes ahead of our 10.00am start time and we were able to maintain quite a good pace with very little “traffic” in front of us.  The fairways were good and the greens, although a little on the slow side were quite firm and true.  Our good pace was kept up and a very enjoyable round in fine weather although hot & humid was completed in a little over four hours.

The form player of the moment, Christian “Psycho” Boysen, stole the show and was the winner with 41 points and for those wondering where his nickname came from then you need to have a game with him when he is not playing very well!  In second place came Arne Christensen (19 point back nine) who beat Bill McGarvie (17 point back nine) into third place on count back after both had finished with 37 points.

Special mention to one of our golfers who had 27 points on the front nine and followed it up with 7 points on the back nine!  Not mentioning any names but his initials are Torben Lindgaard.

1st Christian Boysen (14) 41pts

2nd Arne Christensen (15) 37pts

3rd Bill McGarvie (9) 37pts

Near Pins: 6th – Peter Blackburn, 14th Ray Cody

Long Putts: 18th – Gerry Hughes
