It made a refreshing change to play a round of golf under blue sunny skies with no threat of rain as has been the case in the past two weeks. The course was in very good condition despite recent rain with only a few places that were wet. The greens had recently been cored and sanded but still were pretty good to putt on. A nice cooling breeze was ever present and made conditions comfortable but also added to the difficulty of the course.

Scoring is always difficult on this challenging course and today was no different to previous visits. The winner on the day with thirty-four points was Neil Carter followed by Michael Brett in second on thirty-three points. Both missed opportunities to post better scores. Third went to Jimmy Carr on thirty-one points. Les Hall won the only two near pins taken and thereby scooped the pool with all four.
A salutary lesson was learned by Les Cobban on the way to the course when he was relieved of one thousand baht for not wearing his seatbelt in the back seat of Gerry’s car. It’s a timely reminder to all residents and visitors in the coming months to obey the laws of the Kingdom and save some cash in the process.
Wednesday, Oct. 18, Greenwood – Stableford

Two games in a row under bright sunny skies is a trend that could catch on. Conditions were perfect for golf with the course in excellent condition and only a slight breeze blowing. We were allocated A and B nines and for some reason that only he himself knows the marshal started us on the B nine following a very slow group that had just finished the A nine so the inevitable happened, we were held up on every hole for the first nine, thereafter we were able to play at a good pace and finished in just four hours.
Despite the good conditions scoring was of a low standard with nobody rising to the challenge. For consecutive games, Neil Carter took first place with a score of thirty-two points followed by Michael Brett on thirty, beating Takeshi Hakozaki on countback into third. Only two near pins were won by Gerry Cooney and Geoff Cox
Friday, Oct. 20, Bangpakong – Stableford
1st Michael Brett (16) 68 net
2nd Les Cobban (7) 70 net
3rd Neil Carter (13) 70 net

The second medal round of the month was played at the Bangprakong Riverside Course. This is a course not like by some as its “too easy” and appreciated very much by others. The layout may not be to everyone’s liking but it’s hard to fault the presentation of the course, always excellent fairways and greens that run true. Conditions were perfect today with blue skies and no rain in sight.
Enjoying a rich vein of form lately Les Cobban threatened to tear the course apart with a hole in one and a forty foot putt for par on the front nine, however, even that was only good enough for second place with a net seventy beating both Neil Carter and Jimmy Carr on count back.
The winner on the day was Michael Brett with a net sixty-eight despite a serious stutter on the back nine. It was looking like yet another fade out but he managed to get it all back together on the closing holes, a nice change from past efforts.
Near pins were shared by Les Cobban, Les Hall, Neil Carter and Michael Brett. The race for “Golfer of the Month” is delicately poised with Neil Carter showing great desire to go back to back.
