Monday, Dec. 7, Pleasant Valley – Stableford

It was a public holiday today and a very busy course when we arrived, with a full booking throughout the day but we still teed off bang on time.  We has two divisions with the normal cut at 8-16 in the top flight.  It was a very slow round, taking two and a quarter hours for the front nine and two and a half on the back.

Playing off 14, Mark Potton recorded the best score of the day to win division 1 with 38 points.  We then had two players locked on 37’s, with Per Forsberg edging the coun back 18/17 over Dennis Scougall.

Norman McKinnon took division 2 honours with 34 points, five up on Curtis Hessler in second while Jerry McCarthy placed third a further point back on 28.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Dave Horne, Terry Madsen, Rauli Nummenmaa and Dennis Scougall, and (Div 2) Jim Connelly (3) and Norman McKinnon.

Terry Madsen birdied the 8th to record the only ‘2’ of the day and take the division 1 pot.

Wednesday, Dec. 9, Crystal Bay – Stableford

With the B course still shut and in no way looking like it will be open in the first week of January, we are playing the C and A nines today.

Chris Vollers 38 points was enough to give him the win in division 1, beating John Chambers on count back while in third place with 37 points was Paul Butler.

Norman McKinnon topped division 2 with 37 points ahead of Dave Howden in second on 34 and Geoff Stubbs third with 33.

Near pins were claimed by (Div 1) John Chambers, Dave Horne and Chris Voller, and (Div 2) Cliff Elliott and Paul Hartley.

John Chambers, Per Forsberg, Dave Horne and Paul Sturgeon split the ‘2’s pot in division 1 while there was another rollover in the second flight.

Friday, Dec. 11, Eastern Star – Stableford

After the past two weeks of diminishing numbers, with golfers going back home for Christmas, there have been a few new arrivals and with ten groups today we had three divisions out with the equal cut set at 8-15, 16-18 and 19 plus.

After 38 points on Wednesday and with a few games previously in the doldrums, Chris Voller has bounced back in style to win division 1 today with 40 points.  Ian Speirs came in second with 38 and Arthur Hancock took third with 35 points.

In division 2, Frank Kelly’s 34 took the top podium position, with Walter Weber coming second one point behind and the Irish non-stop talking boy Jerry McCarthy beat Dave Howden 14/12 on a back six count back for third after they were tied on 32 points overall.

Darryl Blair won division 3 with 36 points and there were three 33’s fighting for second and third places; Eugine Maguire taking second ahead of Norman McKinnon in third while poor Max Wilson missed out.

Near pins went to (Div 1) John Chambers, Frank Kelly (2) and Dennis Scougall, and (Div 2) Edvin Jonassen, Jerry McCarthy and David Taylor.

There were an amazing 5 birdie ‘2’s in division 1 today from Bill Bertram, John Chambers, Frank Kelly, Marty Rock and Chris Voller while David Taylor and Walter Weber split the triple rollover pot in division 2.
