PSC golf from The Billabong Golf Bar
Monday, March 3, Silky Oak – Stableford
A deserted Silky Oak today and the course was in great condition, with fast greens and no way you could get a bad lie on the fairways. We have to thank John Player for looking after the lads today and he did a sterling job.
We welcomed Chris Dodd back to the bar today minus his good mate Steve Croy who is unfortunately laid up waiting for an operation for a detached retina and broken nose due to shanked golf ball from one of his friends. If you could see how he looks you will never get in front of a golfer again, it is a terrible lesson to learn this way. We wish you a speedy recovery mate and look forward to seeing you soon.
Friday’s top three (L-R): Jack Piercefield, Bob Philp and Chris Fletcher.
The scores were quite good with a three-way count back on 36 points at the top that saw Owen Walkley, playing his best golf for a long time, coming in third, Chris Dodd taking second and Jack Piercefield taking the day’s honours in first.
There were four ‘2’s coming from Mal Farquharson, John Burns and Doug Douglas (2).
Wednesday, March 5, Green Valley – Stableford
We had nine groups playing today at our usual venue Green Valley, and we got off about 10 minutes early and were back in the clubhouse in just on four hours.
The course was in great condition as always but the greens weren’t as fast as normal, which meant for the scribe anyway that some putts were left a little short much to the disgust of his playing partner, however we didn’t lose the day as it turned out all square.
The scores were really good apart from our mate from Australia, John Burns, who had a whopping 13 points. I think we will have to get a NAGA prize for future competitions for scores like this one. No wonder him and his mate Thommo got rolled by Cottee and John Player in the challenge.
Amazingly enough in nine groups there were no ‘2’s and that must be a first with that many players out there.
We had a count back for sixth place between Auke and Roger Ison, both on 35 points, with Roger getting the nod, fifth place went to Greig Ritchie playing his best round of golf in a long time with 37 points, and again it was a count back for third and fourth on 39 with Eng Duangwaw taking fourth and her good friend Nichawan Khiaophuang (Sa) in third. Second place today went to Chris Dodd with a great 41 points, but not quite good enough to beat Owen Walkley who pipped him at the post with 42 points, his best round for a long time!
Friday, March 7, Khao Kheow – Stableford
Having not played at Khao Kheow for quite some time it was a pleasant day out, even though there were a few late starters who had a night on the town and one too many sherbets.
Chris Fletcher joined us today which turned out to be third time lucky for him. Every time he has tried before work seemed to get in the way. He did have some more luck on A7 with a great shot into the green which initially he thought was a bit short. He had us looking in the rough to the right of the green only for Martin Hayes to look in the hole and there it was for an eagle, a two for five points! Playing the scribe for a couple of ciders he jumped 5 points clear on that hole, but with a nothing on the last the Capt got him back with a birdie on the 18th to win by a couple of points overall.
Larry Gamble had the round of his life with a fantastic 13 points all told I think he was glad to be on his way home the following day. Coming third was the eagle man Chris Fletcher with 35 points, second was Jack Piercefield with 36 and taking top spot was Capt Bob with 38 points and two ciders.
