PSC Golf from The Ferdinand Golf Society
Monday, Feb. 23, Crystal Bay C & A – Stableford
Sukhumvit was slow as usual with the normal hold ups going through Sriracha but on a fine Monday morning we arrived at Crystal Bay in plenty of time. Hangover and gout were the reasons for our original number being reduced by two but it still left us with healthy numbers and our first group teed off about fifteen minutes ahead of schedule.
The weather was perfect and not too hot and the golf course was in good shape although some fairways were quite dry in parts but the greens were very good. The course was fairly busy but with no major hold ups our rounds were completed in around four and a quarter hours.
Wan Makmul.
Having just recently taken up golf it was a credit to Reverend Dick’s partner Wan Makmul who won the day with a fine 39 points. Veteran John Swanson came second with 36 points and with two on 35 points a count back was required to determine third spot and it resulted in your writer, Peter Blackburn (17 point back nine) prevailing over Dick Braimbridge (13 point back nine).
1st Wan Makmul (36) 39pts
2nd John Swanson (27) 36pts
3rd Peter Blackburn (14) 35pts

Long Putts: A9 – Tony Cook
Friday, Feb. 27, Phoenix (Mountain & Lakes) – Stableford
Another excellent turnout with in excess of 7 groups for our third “Fridays at Phoenix” game, which is proving to be very popular and will probably be busier from now on as the “Low Season” green fee rate kicks in.
We were able to tee off about 20 minutes ahead of our scheduled 11.44 am tee time and with the weather fine but fairly hot we were allocated the Mountain & Lake nines which were in very good condition, with the greens on Lake nine quite quicker than Mountain. There were no major delays and the round was completed in about four hours & twenty minutes.
Back at the Phantom Bar afterwards presentations got under way after enjoying the complimentary pizzas and with a fine 38 points it was the consistent Thierry Petrement who was first in A Flight from birthday boy Dave Lehane in second place. Neil Skilton finished third with 34 points and Ed Wyckoff took fourth place with 32.
Hans Moerk (left) & Thierry Petrement.
In B Flight, Hans Moerk was the winner after scoring 34 points, with Hans Erik second on 31 and Wan Makmul taking third spot with 30. With 2 golfers on 28 points a count back was required which resulted in Greg Preferment (12 point back nine) grabbing fourth place from the unlucky Bent Larsen (10 point back nine).
