PSC Golf from the Tropical Golf Group
Tuesday, Feb. 6, Bangpra – Stableford
Arriving at the first tee a little early we were instructed to go to the 10th as it was so busy at the first. This was no problem as all the players were available and with 9 groups we needed to get away as soon as possible. So off we went.
The course was in quite good condition and the greens were much quicker than we have been used to. Get on the high side of putts here and you never know where the ball stops.
In the A Flight, 0 to 19, the winner with 40 points was Dick Warberg ahead of Jon Deane in second with 38 and Mashi Kaneta in third with 36. In fourth was Brian Parish with 33 points on count-back over Paul Weatherly.
In the B Flight, 20 to 26, we had a four-way count-back on 36 points and the winner was Barry Oates ahead of Graham Buckingham in second. Kenny Chung took third place and Torsten Bischoff finished in fourth.
Carole Kubicki topped the C Flight, 27 up, with 38 points ahead of Sean Millar in second with 36. George King was third with 34 points and Brian Cooper placed fourth with 33.
The best 9-hole non-winner scores were Joe Sparwirth with 18 points (front nine) and David Nicholson with 21 points on the back nine.
Friday, Feb. 9, King Naga – Stableford
Last time we reported King Naga was a “work in progress” with potential. Sadly that is still the status as we couldn’t see any changes at all from the last visit. Well, there were a couple changes: fewer caddies, but more electric carts.
What King Naga does do right is let you play with no caddie at a reduced rate and well over half the field did this, as there was no choice really. That brought the price down to 550 baht to walk, pulling your own cart. The course was in fair condition and is one of the best layouts in the area, and at that price it is worth a visit.
In the A-Flight (0-19), Richard Kubicki (c/h 17) took top spot with a fine 39 points despite pulling his own bag around. Tom Herrington (17) and Andre Van Dyk (18) fought it out for second place with 35 points, followed by Takeshi Hakozaki (17) with 34.
Mick Coghlan (22) had the best score of the day with an awesome 40 points in B-Flight (20-26). He was chased home by Dave Cooper (23) with 38 while Paul Weatherley (20) again made a showing with 35 points. Joe Sparwirth (26) took the final podium spot with 33 points.
Torsten Bischoff (27) seems to get listed regularly and kept his streak going with 38 points in C-Flight (27+), beating Don Carmody (32) on count-back. Rita Zoebeli (27) was happy to get called with her fine 37 points, and Patrick Poussier (33) rounded out the flight with 32.
Daryl Evans and Jadwiga returned the best non-winning 9-hole scores.
