PSC Golf from The Bunker Boys
Monday, July 29, Greenwood C & B – Stableford
1st Robby Watts (8) 39pts
2nd Tony Robbins (23) 38pts
3rd Chris Delamare (1) 31pts
It had only been a matter of about ten days since we last played Greenwood and in that time the C course deteriorated markedly with lots of withered grass areas in desperate need of soaking rain, in contrast, the B nine was in fine condition.
In his last round with us until possibly next year, Chris Delamare finished in third place with a score of thirty-one, low by his standards. Tony Robbins on far too generous a handicap of twenty-three took second place with thirty-eight points, nobody with a short game like his should be on such a high handicap. Robby Watts took first place again with an excellent round of thirty-nine despite an off day with the putter.
Only two near pins were claimed, going to Robby and Jimmy Carr.
Wednesday, July 31, Plutaluang S & E – Stableford
1st Michael Brett (15) 40pts
2nd Peter Allen (30) 37pts
3rd Robby Watts (8) 35pts
For our last game of July we made a rare visit to Plutaluang where we were allocated the South & East nines. It was a nice quick round in about three and a half hours.
Despite an indifferent round with the putter, some good, some terrible, Michael Brett put together a score of forty points to take first place. Peter Allen came second with thirty-seven and Robby Watts rounded out the scoring with thirty-five, Robby also suffered from the putting yips. Near pins went to Peter Allen (with the driver naturally), Takeshi Hakozaki, and Robby Watts.
As it was the last day of the month it was again time to find the golfer of the month. Jimmy Carr started the month with a score of forty-seven and followed it up with some good scores and looked the likely winner, however Robby Watts, despite a lot on his mind, stormed home in the second half of the month to take the honors by an incredible margin of fifteen points.
Friday, August 2, Treasure Hill – Stableford
1st Tony Robbins (23) 37pts
2nd Daryl Vernon (21) 32pts
3rd Michael Brett (14) 29pts
The Treasure Hill course was the venue for the first game of a new month of golf and this is another course suffering from a lack of rain with some areas having been remediated and still not ready for play not marked as G U R. The greens were good, consistent and true. The round was made more difficult by a very strong swirling wind that within the space of a minute could blow from every point on the compass and with varying degrees of strength. Despite our lead group being out behind a local four-ball we were never held up and completed the round in around three and a half hours, which is excellent.
On what seems to be his favorite course Robby Watts set out on fire, playing by his words “the best he can play” and scored twenty-two on the front nine. However, a phone call on the tenth tee upset his equilibrium and he faded away completely on the back, a message for all those who take their phone onto the course.
Tony Robbins took first place with thirty-seven points and demonstrated the value of keeping the ball low in windy conditions. Daryl Vernon came second with thirty-two and Michael Brett third with twenty-nine. Keith Hemmings displayed the value of invention on the par-five seventh by playing his second across the water, bouncing from one lilypad to the next all the way across and onto the fairway beyond. Trick shots like that are hard to replicate.
Near pins went to Keith Hemmings, Michael Brett, and two to Jimmy Carr.
