PSC Golf from The Billabong Golf Bar

Monday, July 4, Phoenix Gold – Stableford

Talk about millionaire golf, that’s what we played Monday at Phoenix.  The course is currently in magnificent condition and is a real pleasure to play.  With only four groups we were away to an early start and just cruised around the course.  Whilst there are a few small patches being repaired on some of the greens, they still putted fast and true.

The scores were quite good with 34 points from Lloyd Shuttleworth taking third.  Second place went to Graham Rice with a fine 35 points but taking line honours was Capt. Bob with a grand 39 points, prompting him to ring the bell back at the Billabong.

There were no ‘2’s today.

Wednesday, July 6, Green Valley – Stableford

The weather has certainly changed and we arrived at Green Valley with a thin veil of clouds resisting all efforts of the sun to break through.  It provided a pause from the searing heat during May and June and was welcomed by everyone.  The occasional patch of blue allowed the sun to show its face just to remind us that it was still there but without the severity of last month.

Except for those in the winner’s enclosure the scores were not great, but it certainly turned out to be a Wild family day.  9 ladies battled it out in their own flight with Miss Usa claiming third with 38 points.  Karen Craigie would normally expect to win the day with 41 points but there are always exceptions to the rule and you never know what Miss Som Wild is going to do on any particular day – and today she came home with 42 points to take top spot.

In the main field Kevin Hamilton just missed playing to his handicap with 35 points, being trumped by Lloyd Shuttleworth recording 37 points to take second place.  But the Wild family celebrated a clean sweep, ringing the bell back at the Billabong, when husband Kevin won the men’s competition with 38 points.  They were not finished there for Miss Som had a ‘2’ as did Miss Eng and two went to Miss Usa.  There were only two ‘2’s for their male counterparts with one going to Stan Rees and the other to a relative new comer to the Billabong, Ken.

Friday, July 8, Burapha – Stableford

A nice drive up the Route 7 to Burapha today and this course just gets better and better and is a pleasure to play here.  With A and B loops being prepared for the Pattaya Singha Open starting next week we were allocated to play C and D, which to all of us is certainly considered the harder combination, not necessarily the longest but it doesn’t seem to take any prisoners along the way.

There was a count back for third place between Capt. Bob and Helmut Hebstreit, with Helmut relegating Capt Bob to fourth after both scored 36 points overall.  There was also a count back for top spot between Mihail, our friend from Qatar, and the lady from Christchurch NZ, Karen Craigie, both on 37 points.  Karen managed to edge it with a slightly better back nine.

There were two ‘2’s, coming from Karen and Auke.

Note: The Billabong Bar is situated just off Siam Country Club Road looking straight down Lake Mabprachan.  Give Bob a call on 082 204 3411 if you are looking for a game.
