Back again at St. Andrews, as Green Valley was booked out, and again we got it at Green Valley price which was an excellent deal for us.

Michael Williams.Michael Williams.

As said before, St. Andrews is a low handicappers’ course and the scoring today again reflected that with the higher handicappers finding it very difficult.  Actually some of the lower ones also found it very difficult but that is another story!

One man who didn’t find it so testing was Michael Williams who had by far the best score of the day and won A Flight with thirty nine points.  Three behind in second was William Bishop and Don Byrne and Teddy Lodge completed the podium in third and fourth respectively.

In B Flight, Joe Cuddy won again with thirty five points and John Deardon was second with thirty one, beating Frank McGowan on a count back.  Joe Peters came fourth two further back.

Tuesday, Feb. 10, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

1st John Rushe (18) 40pts

2nd Ted Morris (12) 33pts

3rd Joe Peters (20) 33pts

Today we had a much smaller group than usual as a lot of our regular friends were playing in The Tara Court Cup, which is a separate competition.  It was just as well that we had a small group as there seemed to be a bit of a mix up in the bookings and another group of Irish golfers were there and had booked for the same time.  However, we got off early and went around quickly and hopefully didn’t hold them up or spoil their game.

We had one man make Mountain Shadow look very easy today, although all the others found it difficult.  John Rushe was the man and he scored an excellent forty points to win by a mile.  Ted Morris was second with a more modest thirty three points, beating Joe Peters on a count back.

Teddy Lodge got the only ‘2’ of the day.

Thursday, Feb. 12, Eastern Star – Stableford

1st Des Griffith (9) 40pts

2nd John Kelly (27) 35pts

3rd Don Byrne (16) 32pts

4th Marty Rock (9) 32pts

5th Steven Downes (7) 31pts

As this is a very difficult course the scoring in general was low, apart that is from Des Griffith who won by a mile with forty points.  John Kelly was second with thirty five and Don Byrne, who had a magnificent twenty one points on the back-nine, came third after beating Marty Rock on a count back.

Steven Downes took fifth spot on a count back over Vincent Grass and Gilbert Brosnan.
