Monday, Oct. 30, Khao Kheow – Stableford

As we arrived here there was an incredible strong wind blowing across the course which lasted for the whole round and the debris around the course was unbelievable.  The flags were being blown out of the holes and while waiting to putt the balls were being blown across the greens.

This extraordinary weather was reflected in the scores as Pete Sumner won division 1 with just 28 points ahead of Martin Grimoldby and Dennis Scougall in second and third on 27 points, Martin edging the count-back 17/12 on the back-nine.

In division 2 and playing off the red tees, Jim Connelly topped the podium with 31 points and Peter Davies was second with 29, beating Frank Grainger 18/12 on the back-nine.

Only two nearest the pins claimed today, by Martin Grimoldby and Page Thomas.

Wednesday, Nov. 1, Greenwood – Stableford

We were playing the C and B nines today with the cut in the two divisions at 10-18 and 19+.  The greens today on the C course were very slow but like lightening on the back nine.

Pete Sumner recorded the best score of the day, winning division 1 with 38 points while Colin James was second on 36 and Dennis Scougall third with 35.

Theo Bahrt with 32 won division 2 and Jim Connelly was second one point behind.  Tom Novak took third on 30.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Terry Madsen, Dennis Scougall and Pete Sumner, and (Div 2) Jim Connelly and Colin James.

Terry Madsen and Pete Sumner bidied C3 for the only ‘2’s of the day.

Friday, Nov. 3, Eastern Star – Stableford

There were 6 four-balls out and one three-ball today with the cut at 5-17 and 18+ in the two divisions.  A vast improvement here over the past two weeks with some very manicured fairways and slick greens as well.

Jim Connelly’s 37 points was the best return of the day, giving him top spot in division 2.  Rod Howett beat Frank Kelly on a 20/13 count-back for second after they both shot 34 points.

Fergus Brenan won division 1with 36, Mikael Andersson was second one point behind and Les Smith took third with 34, beating Seil Pete and Colin Aspinall 19/16/16.

Near pins were claimed by (Div 1) John Hughes, Dennis Scougall, Bill Shepley and Pete Sumner, and (Div 2) Rod Howett, Frank Kelly and Tom Novak.

Dennis Scougall birdied the 6th and Pete Sumner the 3rd to split the ‘2’s pot in division 1 and in division 2 a rollover here to next Friday.

There was sad news over the weekend with one of our regular golfers Chris Reed passing away.  R.I.P. Chris.
