Travellers Rest Golf Group
It is strange how the mind plays tricks on us all and we tend to forget the truth when bemoaning our luck when playing golf. The times I have heard people, including myself, moaning about missing three or four simple putts in the round and forgetting about the two twenty-footers that did go in.
My old mate Derek Thorogood has for some weeks now been moaning that he is always the bridesmaid and never the bride and this past week he finished with a second and a third place just to prove his point.
(Left to right): Jim Cooper and Roger Wilkinson.
So I looked up his record for this year and found that he had been the bridesmaid (runner-up) seven times and the bride (winner) eight times, which makes him very forgetful and an outright bigamist.
Monday, July 28, Bangpra – Stableford
On Monday it was off to Bangpra to do battle with the monkey course once again and the low scoring of the previous week continued. Simon Tapster and his 33 points was good enough to take the honours, leaving Derek Thorogood holding the bouquet (again) in second place and Michael Maguire filling in as pageboy and taking third.
1st Simon Tapster (13) 33pts
2nd Derek Thorogood (15) 31pts
3rd Michael Maguire (20) 30pts
Wednesday, July 30, Burapha A & B – Stableford
Burapha was the venue on Wednesday and the scoring doldrums disappeared over the horizon when Jimmy Cooper rattled off 37 points to beat his handicap and the rest of the competitors to take first place. Bob Cannon stepped into second place after beating Derek Thorogood on count back. How unlucky can one man get? My heart goes out to you Derek.
1st Jim Cooper (15) 37pts
2nd Robert Cannon (19) 34pts
3rd Derek Thorogood (15) 34pts
Friday, August 1, Pattavia Century – Stableford
The TRGG finished up the week with a trip through the pineapple fields and on to Pattavia Century. Roger Wilkinson made a fine return to form by taking the course apart which is not easy on those rolling greens. He ended up with 39 points which was far too good for the rest of the field and he finished top of the leaderboard.
Richard Talbot, well recovered from running in the Pattaya Marathon finished in second place, which was a marked improvement on where he finished in the marathon. Big Magnus Alvarsson took third place on the podium.
1st Roger Wilkinson (13) 39pts
2nd Richard Talbot (15) 35pts
3rd Magnus Alvarsson (12) 32pts
Good luck to all you golfers for the coming week. If you would like to play a round of golf with the TRGG please phone Fergus Brennan on 086 056 7019 or pop into the Ned Kelly Bar in Soi Lengkee and add your name to the weekly lists which are posted on the notice board.
