The Backyard Golf Society
Last Friday’s Backyard golf outing at Emerald on August 29 produced a mind-boggling first, something no one has ever seen before or likely to ever see again. In a moment reminiscent of the paparazzi pursuing Lady Di, a sneak photo (well done Bob) was taken of ‘The Quiet Man’ vastly exceeding his normal tip to a caddy and handing over a 500 baht note. If we did not have the evidence no one would believe it but fortunately for ‘Mr. Quiet’ he had earlier found 1,000 baht so he decided he would share his good luck.
In another twist that is sure to lead to complications in the future, the caddy in question was ‘Diet Whiskey’s’ regular (he was unable to play due to some disturbing rumblings in the nether region) so he may be required to hand over the same amount next game!
‘The Quiet Man’ caught handing over a larger than normal gratuity.
On to the golf and the winner on the day with 38 points was Irish John, with the same player also taking the only near pin. All bar one player won at least 1 skin with ‘The Biss’ winning 6, Andy (and back for a new season) “The Deadliest Catch” Crabb 5, ‘Second-hand Bob’ (soon to depart back to the stall on Portobello Road) won 3 and there were 2 each to ‘The Quiet Man’ and ‘Irish John’. Only Russell “He’s a Victorian” was skinless but with his new driver going well he is sure to change that soon, especially as he has decided to stick around full-time for the rest of the year.
