Tuesday, June 2, Khao Kheow – Stableford

Khao Kheow is a great course, although perhaps tough to play and you can find some a little cheaper, but we still had a very reasonable turn out for today’s game.

A good morning drive up there saw us at the first tee in good time and the test for the day was to be the B & C nines, and pretty much on time away we went.  It was a funny day, sort of overcast but still very warm, and the course was a bit of a conundrum, being wet is some places and very dry in others, and despite this we did not seem to get much run on the ball.  The fairways were overall fairly good but the greens were a bit on the slow side.  Still, it was an enjoyable round and most players got back to the changing room tired out.

Monday’s top three (left to right) Sunny Khanna, Brian Parish and Henry Wong.

The winner on the day was Henry Wong with a fine 43 points, ahead of Brian Parish with 37 in second and a count back on 36 points that saw Sunny Khanna in third and Derek Brook fourth.

Friday, June 5, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

It’s now June and the dog days of summer are in full swing.  Nevertheless a fine showing of 22 golfers met at BJ’s Lodge to fill up on food and discuss the outing for the day.  On the rotation was Mountain Shadow, a course that strikes fear into the heart of many golfers.

The weather this day was classified as “good”, meaning good for this time of year.  It was hot of course but a steady breeze kept things tolerable and the bugs away, and near the end of the round cloud cover arrived to make it even better.

Mark West (left) and Mashi Kaneta (right) with Noon.

The greens at MS are in good condition and fairly tricky.  Sadly the fairways were hard and in scrappy shape.  Many a ball hit to the middle of the fairway still found itself on dirt, or if one was lucky, dead grass.  What a difference some rain from Mother Nature would make!  Well, on to the results.

In A-flight (0-14) we had some good golfers this day and it was all 12-handicappers who made the winners list.  In first place was outgoing PSC Golf Chairman Mark West with a fine 36 points.  In second came Denis Sabourin with 34 points, followed by Brian Parish in third with 33.

Mashi Kaneta (h/cap 15) is not used to playing in the B-flight but it didn’t faze him as he took first place with a fine 36 points.  Runner-up John Anderson (28) had an excellent 35 points, and Bob Britton (15) gathered 32 for third.
