PSC Golf from the Phantom Golf Society
Wednesday, May 6, Bangpra – Stableford
It was a welcome return to the “Monkey Course” after several months and our four groups were all looking forward to the challenge. The weather was fine & hot and the course in pretty good shape although the notorious Bangpra greens were considerably slower than normal, which suited quite a few of us.
Our first group teed off on the 1st 15 minutes early at 9.45am and even though we were held up several times by a Korean group in front we still managed to get round in the very good time of three hours & fifty minutes.
Frank Donnelly & Christian Boysen.
In only his second game back after several months in Australia, it was Frank “Woody” Donnelly who stole the show, winning with an excellent 41 points. In second place your writer, Peter Blackburn came second with 36 points, 2 ahead of Christian Boysen in third place and Gerd Riedler finished fourth on 33.
1st Frank Donnelly (24) 41pts
2nd Peter Blackburn (15) 36pts
3rd Christian Boysen (15) 34pts
4th Gerd Riedler (9) 33pts
Near Pin: Jack Grindvold
Long Putt: Frank Donnelly
Friday, May 8, Phoenix (Mountain & Ocean) – Stableford
We just had a small number of starters for this week’s game at Phoenix but most of us were treated to transportation to and from the course in our brand new Toyota Commuter 10-seater mini van, and that new vehicle smell was there for all to “enjoy”.
We had a late tee time and the course was quite busy so an early tee off was out of the question and we sent our first group off a couple of minutes early at 11.00am. The weather was once more looking ominous with dark clouds and thunder not too far away and after four holes down came the rain, so the drink station before the Mountain 5 tee soon was crowded with sheltering golfers. After about 30 minutes the rain eased off somewhat so we continued in rather unpleasant conditions for golf and it was another five holes before the rain stopped but the golf course did drain quite quickly.
The conditions were not conducive to good golf but at least we were out there competing and we managed to finish in four hours & forty five minutes which included the half hour stop.
Christian Boysen was the top “water baby” on the day and finished in first place with 34 points, three points ahead of Steve Truelove in second spot and Oddur Olafsson was third with 29.
1st Christian Boysen (15) 34pts
2nd Steve Truelove (9) 31pts
3rd Oddur Olafsson (13) 29pts
Long Putt: Gary Williams
