PSC Golf from the Phantom Golf Society
Monday, August 10, Crystal Bay C & A – Stableford
There were just 10 of us for this the first game of the week, a visit to Crystal Bay. The course was fairly quiet and C & A were the designated nines for us in that order and our first group, a three-ball teed off on C1 7 minutes earlier than our scheduled 9.44am tee time.
The golf course condition was ok but a bit dry and the greens were not the best but I’m sure things will be better when we play here again next month. We managed to get through a Korean lady four-ball before the 7th hole which enabled us to set a cracking pace and our round was completed in just three & a half hours. It was then back to The Phantom Bar for presentations & complimentary pizzas and French fries.
Frank Donnelly & Iain Jones.
After not having played golf for a few weeks, Frank “Woody” Donnelly did well to score 38 points and was the winner on the day, with Gerd Riedler coming second on 37 and your writer, Peter Blackburn, finishing in third spot with 36.
1st Frank Donnelly (24) 38pts
2nd Gerd Riedler (7) 37pts
3rd Peter Blackburn (15) 36pts
Near Pins: C7 – Frank Donnelly
Long Putts: A9 – Jared Undery
Friday, August 14, Plutaluang, N & W – Stableford
Another good turnout for our game at Plutaluang today with 4 groups on the starting sheet. Arriving at the golf course it was quite busy and we discovered that on Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays it is now compulsory carts here. This is a surprising “revenue raiser” by this course as they have previously always kept prices down, particularly in the “low season”.
North & West were our allocated nines and we teed off on N1 10 minutes before our 10.00am tee time. The weather was terrific and the course was in good shape although some fairways were dry and hard, but the greens were very good despite grumbling from a couple of our members which could probably be put down to just “bad putting”. We made excellent time and completed our round in three hours & forty five minutes.
Iain “Jonesy” Jones was the player of the day and his 36 points secured for him his very first win with the Phantom Golf Society. In second place was your writer, Peter Blackburn with 33 points and our resident “Biker” Mogens Melander came third on 32.
1st Iain Jones (24) 36pts
2nd Peter Blackburn (15) 33pts
3rd Mogens Melander (36) 32pts
Near Pins: N6 – Frank Donnelly, W3 – Frank Donnelly
Long Putts: N9 – Mogens Melander, W9 – Iain Jones
