PSC golf from The Golf Club

Wednesday, April 4, Mountain Shadow (white tees) – Stableford

1st Ed Wykcoff (10) 37pts

2nd Phil Smedley (13) 37pts

3rd Rod Peach (14) 36pts

4th Stephan Berg (5) 36pts

As the great American cowboy from the 1930’s Will Rogers once said, “A stranger is a friend I haven’t met yet.”  And so it was time once again for the friendly monthly battle for the crystal, now known as The Golf Club & Lewiinski’s Challenge, where our two clubs go head to head for the glory.

The venues this time out were Mountain Shadow and Bangpakong Riverside, both of which are a great test of golf.  The format is simple; there are 2 rounds of golf and each side adds up all of their Stableford scores then divides that by the number of golfers to obtain a scoring average for each round.  The lowest combined average wins.

We alternate the presentation, so both clubs get to host the apres-golf dinner and the lads get to mingle with their old mates and meet new friends.  This time, Lewiinski’s was the host for Wednesday and The Golf Club was the host for Thursday (we usually hold a Wed-Fri comp but it was a holiday on Friday) .

This was our 4th comp, the first three months had been won by The Golf Club, so the crew from Lewiinski’s had their work cut out for them.  At Mountain Shadow, the team from Soi Pattayaland 3 took the advantage on the Wednesday and could celebrate at home (after the lovely buffet dinner) with a 30 Stableford point average vs. a 29 point scoring average for The Golf Club.  Advantage Lewiinski’s!

Thursday, April 5, Bangpakong (white tees) – Stableford

The next round happened to be the following day at Bangpakong Riverside, a course which most of the boys had never played before but were looking forward to the experience.  Aside from the first 4 holes being verticut and sanded, the rest of the course was in very good condition and the layout was great, especially on the back nine.  The strange thing to find was the shoddy condition of the showers, as the clubhouse and restaurant were very impressive indeed.  Just a little TLC would get it up to standard without too much of a financial investment, so come on guys and get your act together.

On the first tee, we knew we needed better than a 31 point average to be in contention for another win.  At the presentation that evening back at The Golf Club, we hosted the golfers to our BBQ feast all hickory smoked on the Weber grill.  The numbers were crunched and we ended up with 32.8 Stableford point scoring average, nearly 4 points better than we were at Mountain Shadow!  Surely that would be enough to continue with our run of victories for the boys of Soi LK Metro?

Then the tally from the Lewiinski’s lads came in … 33.8 Stableford points scoring average, we were shattered!  Beaten by a full point after we had scored so well and thought our comeback was in hand.  Oh well, at least we stand 3-1 ahead for the year thus far.

The overall winner was our American friend Ed Wyckoff playing for Lewiinski’s who scored a 37 & 41 to win with a count back victory over Dermott Murphy who also had a 78 point 2 day total.  Congrats must also go out to Jim Elphick who managed 42 points on the day to boost his sides’ average immensely.

Well played to the lads at Lewiinski’s and our congratulations go out to them.  Thanks to Colin, Jim and Peter and their staff for another good time and some great golf.  You are all welcome to join in with us the next time, so don’t be shy, just come on in and sign up at either venue.

Attention!  Our Songkran road trip this year is 13-20 April and up in the Khao Yai region at Pak Chong.  The Golf Club is closed from 13th and will re-open on Friday 20th April!

Note:  The Golf Club is located on Soi LK Metro.  We play on Monday, Wednesday and Friday so come join us for a fun day out.  Just call 085 434 3377 or see our website www.golfclubpattaya.com  and for more information mail us: [email protected] and see updates at www. facebook.com/golfclubpattaya.
