Monday, June 4, Pattana – Stableford

We opted for the A and B nines today and at 6870 yards the white tees were a touch too tough, so we were off the yellow tees in both divisions.

Paul Young, playing off 16, scores 19 on the front nine on the A course and 17 on the back nine to win division 1 with 36 points. Pete Sumner was second on 33 points after 20 points on the front nine and the Buffalo boy John Hughes, in his last game this visit, took third after beating Paul Butler 14/13 on countback, both with 29 points overall.

Peter Davies won division 2 with a modest 30 points; Glyn Evans was second on 27 and Peter Thomas third with 26.

Near pins went to (Div 1) John Hughes and Pete Sumner (2), and (Div 2) Ray Daws, Glyn Evans and Peter Thomas.

Pete Sumner birdied A8 for the only ‘2 of the day.

Wednesday, June 6, Pattaya C.C. – Stableford

A late change in courses for today’s game with a major Thai tournament at Plutaluang so we switched to Pattaya Country Club. We had a few cancellations but there were still 16 players out with the two divisional cut at 9-17 and 19+.

Playing off 14, Les Smith had his best score for some considerable time and won division 1 with 37 points. Jerry Sweetnam was second on 35 points, Colin Aspinall third with 33 and there were three 29’s fighting for fourth place, with a 16/15/13 back-nine countback seeing Nik Evans beat Paul Young and Ray Daws.

Welsh boy Curtis Hessler with 34 points won division 2, Bill Kana was second on 33, Peter Davies came third on 31 and in fourth place with 30 points was John Carlin.

Near pins were claimed by (Div 1) Paul Butler, Nik Evans, Les Smith and Jerry Sweetnam, and (Div 2) Colin Aspinall (2) and Peter Thomas.

Once again there was only one ‘2’ and it came from Jerry Sweetnam who birdied the tough 16th to scoop the division 1 pot.
