Thai athletes celebrated their impressive success at the 2024 Paris Olympics with a procession through Bangkok on Friday (Aug 16), having secured six medals in total—one gold, three silver, and two bronze. The victory parade, organized by the National Sports Development Fund, the Sports Authority of Thailand, and the National Olympic Committee of Thailand, began at the Olympic Committee headquarters and concluded at Government House.

Before the parade, a ceremony was held where His Majesty the King bestowed gifts, bouquets, and baskets upon the medalists, acknowledging their achievements and the pride they brought to the nation. Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan, chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand, commended the athletes and sports associations for their exemplary performance, especially Panipak Wongpattanakit’s historic back-to-back Olympic gold medals—the first Thai athlete to achieve such a feat.

The procession itself was a festive affair with decorated vehicles showcasing the Olympic rings and the Eiffel Tower to commemorate the Paris Games. The route was lined with fans who turned out to support the athletes.

Gen. Prawit stressed the importance of continuous development and learning from this experience to further enhance performance in future competitions, including implementing rigorous measures to maintain sports integrity and prevent the use of banned substances. (NNT)
