Thailand’s caretaker government has approved a draft joint statement for the upcoming APEC Energy Ministers Meeting taking place in the United States in the week ahead. The statement emphasizes efforts to transition to a clean energy society.
The 13th APEC Energy Ministers Meeting will be held in the U.S. city of Seattle, Washington, from August 15-16. Ministers from 21 member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum will discuss current and future energy issues, as well as clean and sustainable energy.
Deputy Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhanadirek said the joint statement outlines a mutual framework for cooperation on energy policy. This is in line with the Bangkok goals on the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy and the APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040 for an open, dynamic, resilient and peaceful Asia-Pacific community.
The deputy spokesperson said the statement will also serve as a guideline for transitioning to clean energy, setting new energy goals for APEC to support net-zero carbon emission targets and carbon neutrality. The guidelines laid out under this statement also help promote energy security and more flexible and inclusive energy. (NNT)
