BANGKOK, 27 February 2014 The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation is set to extend assistance to 15 drought-hit provinces.
DDPM chief Chatchai Promlert said 15 provinces across the country including Si Sa Ket, Trang and Khon Kaen have been declared drought disaster zones so far.
Plans to assist drought victims include revising the water management system and reserving water for agricultural and personal use.
Residents in affected provinces are urged to use water sparingly and to prepare reserves of water for daily use. Off-season rice-growing should also be avoided.
In Bangkok, the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority earlier urged locals to start collecting tap water, as higher levels of sea water are likely to affect production in the city this week.
