Ms. Pinsuda Jayanama, Director-General of Department of International Organizations, led the Thai delegation to attend the 18th Meeting of the Bali Process Steering Group (SG) and the 17th Ad Hoc Group (AHG) Senior Officials Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 2 – 3 May 2024.
The Meeting discussed progress made by the Bali Process members in the implementation of the 2023 Adelaide Strategy for Cooperation and ways forward.
The Director-General shared Thailand’s experiences and good practices on the screening and the protection of victims of trafficking in persons through the National Referral Mechanism (NRM), and emphasized the needs to strengthen international cooperation as well as multisectoral partnership in line with the whole of society approach to counter people smuggling and trafficking in persons, especially those related to online scams.
The Bali Process, incepted in 2002, is a Regional Consultative Process in the Asia-Pacific region to address smuggling of migrants, human trafficking and related transnational crimes, with Thailand as one of the Steering Group member countries working closely with Australia, Indonesia and New Zealand.
