YALA, Sept 10–– Two soldiers were killed while one soldier and one student were wounded in a bomb ambush on Tuesday at a school security booth in the violence-plagued province of Yala, according to local police.
The victims were identified as Sgt Pratet Chan-onand and Pvt Wuth Kongwoo, who both died in the late morning incident, while Pvt Theerapong Somjit and Atsadawuth Boonthien, a 12-year-old student, were wounded.
The explosion occurred at a security booth at Kanarasdornbumroong 2 School in the Ya’s provincial seat while five members of Yala Special Task Force 11 were providing security in the school, according an investigation led by Yala Special Task Force 11 chief Lt Col Chalat Srivichien and Yala provincial police chief Pol Col Pacharapol Na Nakorn.
As they were sitting near the security booth, the explosive device was triggered by a radio signal.
The bomb disposal unit found fragments of the homemade bomb which was built in a gas cylinder and buried near the scene. The powerful explosion caused a two metre wide and one metre deep hole.
