BANGKOK, 24 Oct 2014 – National Reform Council (NRC) member Professor Dr.Sombat Thamrongthanyawong disclosed that there will be 20 NRC members allowed on the Constitution Drafting Committee.
He said the NRC Whip had not finalized the shortlist of the 20 members. Speculation had surfaced that 15 members from the 11 committees for reform and 4 groups of provinces, and another 5 members from outside of the Council would be selected to join the charter drafting committee. However, some members of the Whip felt it was more appropriate for all 20 members to come from within the NRC.
Dr.Sombat said he was confident a meeting next Monday will finalize the issue, and the shortlist will be completed by October 29th.
The NRC member added that he personally wanted to sit on the charter drafting committee, but, as there are many others who have offered to take up the responsibility, he would focus his attention on such issues as education and power decentralization, as a reform council member.
