BANGKOK, 25 June 2015 (NNT)-The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has revealed that the drought situation has improved in 20 provinces, but 20 others are still struggling to cope with the crisis.
DDPM Director-General Chatchai Promlert has revealed that more than 7,000 communities in 20 provinces remain affected by water shortages. They are mostly located in the upper part of the country and some in the east.
Provincial authorities as well as the Royal Thai Army have been coordinated to provide assistance to residents in drought stricken zones. Water has been delivered to villages for household consumption and farming activities.
Weed and other types of aquatic plants have been removed from the canals to allow better irrigation to the communities and farmlands.
