2012 Prince Mahidol Award presentation ceremony next Wednesday

BANGKOK, Jan 23 – The presentation ceremony for the 2012 Prince Mahidol Award in the fields of Medicine and Public Health will be held at the Chakri Throne Hall on January 30.

Supat Vanichakarn, Prince Mahidol Award Foundation secretary general said that Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, representing His Majesty the King, will confer the 2012 Prince Mahidol Award on distinguished persons in the fields of medicine and public health at Chakri Throne Hall on January 30 at 5.30pm.

On behalf of His Majesty the King, Princess Sirindhorn will also host the banquet in honour of the laureates at Boromrajasathitmaholarn Throne Hall at 7.30pm that evening.

The Prince Mahidol Award Foundation decided last November 9 to confer the 2012 Prince Mahidol Award in the field of medicine to Sir Michael David Rawlins of United Kingdom while in the field of public health, the award will be conferred to Dr Uche Veronica Amazigo of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Established  in 1992 by His Majesty the King to mark the birth centenary of his late father His Royal Highness Prince Mahidol of Songkla, the foundation is headed by Princess Sirindhorn as president.

The foundation honours an individual or organisation for making a major contribution to humanity in medicine medicine.

Each prize comes with a medal, certificate and a cash award of US$100,000 or Bt3 million.
