The 2023 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, led by U.S. President Joe Biden, has kicked off in San Francisco. The week-long event, themed “Creating a Resilient and Sustainable Future for All,” brings together leaders from the Asia-Pacific to discuss critical issues such as trade, the digital economy, clean energy, and gender equity.

Key priorities for this year include interconnected, innovative, and inclusive growth, with a focus on digital connectivity, sustainable energy, and supply chain resilience. U.S. Senior Official for APEC, Ambassador Matt Murray, highlighted APEC’s vital role in driving economic growth in the Asia-Pacific, a significant region for global trade and economy.

The APEC summit will conclude with the Economic Leaders’ Meeting on November 16-17, setting the strategic agenda for the next year. Preceding this, the APEC Finance Ministers’ Meeting and the APEC Ministerial Meeting, chaired by U.S. Secretary of Treasury Janet Yellen and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken respectively, will address long-term economic policies and trade.

The event also includes the APEC CEO Summit, focusing on sustainable and innovative business practices. Dr. Rebecca Sta Maria of the APEC Secretariat emphasized the importance of collaboration among diverse economies for global prosperity.
