A memorandum of understanding for the development of public infrastructures for state-allocated farming land has been enacted between 22 agencies. The acting prime minister today (2 September) presided over the signing of the memorandum.
Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon chaired the signing ceremony for the MOU, which facilitates the collaborative development of infrastructure and utilities in state-allocated farming land. This development drive is being spearheaded by the Office of the National Land Policy Board (ONLB) in partnership with the 21 other agencies that signed the MOU. One of the MOU’s aims is to elevate the quality of life of those living on state-allocated land.
ONLB programs provide land for impoverished individuals to make their living on as a group or as a community. Ownership is not provided. The programs are part of the government’s policies addressing poverty and disparity and are designed to avoid land from changing hands and ultimately being bought off. The programs hope to provide farmers with sustainable farming land that can be passed on to future generations.
Gen. Prawit asked the MOU signatories to develop basic infrastructure and utilities, as well as to develop occupations for people living in the targeted areas. To improve people’s income, distribution channels are also to be procured for farm produce generated from state-allocated land.(NNT)
