25 Thai films named national heritage

BANGKOK, 4 October 2015 – The Ministry of Culture has named 25 Thai films as national film heritage for 2015, citing historic and artistic contributions.

The Minister of Culture Vira Rojpojchanarat today signed the endorsement of films named as national film heritage, on the occasion of the Thai Film Conservation Day 4 October 2015.

This year saw 25 films added to the heritage registry, including historical film records that are influential to society, such as the footage of His Majesty the King’s ordination, the mission of Siamese soldiers in World War I, and the ‘Yutthana-Siriporn’ movie that captured the livelihood of Thai people in the city along with important locations in 1963.

In addition, films withstanding the test of time were added to the registry. These films are artwork that have been scrutinized by the panel under various valuations, namely historic value, film artistic value, completeness and uniqueness, influence to the society, and rarity.

Now in its fifth year, the film heritage panel already registered a total of 125 films, deemed worthy of the title national heritage.
