BANGKOK, Oct 6 His Majesty the King has endorsed the 250 member line-up of Thailand’s National Reform Council in accordance with Section 28 of the 2014 Provisional Constitution.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha countersigned the appointments, which took effect today.
Well-known reform councilors include former parliament president Chai Chidchob, 86, former deputy defence minister Yutthasak Sasiprapa, Somchai Ruchupan, legal expert of many governments, Borwornsak Uwanno, legal expert and secretary-general of the King Prajadhipok’s Institute, Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, former president of the National Institute of Development Administration who joined the demonstrations of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee, Alongkorn Ponlaboot, deputy leader of the Democrat Party, and SEA Write Award winner Naowarat Pongpaiboon.
Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Yuthavong said the National Reform Council would plan corruption reduction, educational reform, and justice promotion and form a constitution-drafting assembly and its work must take shape in six months to bring the country back to its normal situations.
Taking part in the selection of the reform councilors, Mr Yongyuth said that he had tried to invite representatives of all concerned parties but some parties did not send their representatives.
The secretariat of the House of Representatives will officially register national reform councilors from Wednesday through Oct 15.
It will distribute recommendations for national reform from a reform preparation committee of the Defence Ministry and copies of the provisional constitution to reform councilors for their study.
