Three people have been confirmed dead in the latest shooting at the Fort Hood U.S. Army base in central Texas.
According to reports, the shooter was a soldier who was suffering from a mental breakdown. He killed 3 people and wounded 16 others before shooting himself in the head with a .45-caliber pistol.
Authorities declined to identify the shooter, but said there were no indications that the incident was linked to terrorism.
The shooting lasted about 20 minutes. All the wounded and killed were military personnel, the base revealed.
U.S. President Barack Obama said he was “heartbroken” that another shooting had occurred at the Fort Hood Army installation and described the situation there as fluid.
The base was the site of a shooting in 2009 that ultimately killed 13 people and wounded another 32, the worst mass murder at a military installation in U.S. history.
