Three tourist destinations in Thailand were honored in the 2023 Green Destinations Top 100 Stories. These destinations are Nai Wiang sub-district of Nan province, Mueang Kao sub-district of Sukhothai province, and Khlong Thom district of Krabi province.
Ms. Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, the Minister of Tourism and Sports, presented the 2023 Green Destination 100 Stories emblem to representatives from all three areas.
The Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA) has been rigorously promoting sustainable tourism projects. In Nai Wiang, Nan province, there is a focus on managing tourism waste through social processes in the old city.
Sukhothai province’s Mueang Kao emphasizes conservation to protect cultural tourism sites from animal encroachment. In Khlong Thom of Krabi province, the focus is on managing and maintaining upstream forests and reforestation to protect and sustain the tourism resource base.
The achievement of these three tourist destinations has been recognized by the Green Destinations Foundation, based in the Netherlands.
Since 2020, four Thai tourist areas have ranked in the Top 100. These include Chiang Khan (เชยงคาน) sub-district, Loei province in 2020, Nai Wiang, Nan province in both 2020 and 2021, Mueang Kao of Sukhothai province in 2021, and Ko Mak of Trat province in 2022.
This year, DASTA plans to develop seven more tourist destinations according to standard criteria in the provinces of Trat, Chonburi, Sukhothai, Loei, Nan, Suphanburi, and around the Songkhla Lake basin. (NNT)
