BANGKOK, 18 April 2013 – The 3-year-old kindergartener who was in a coma after having been left inside an unvented school van for a long time has died.
Bangkok Hospital Director Phaisan Chantharakphitak and the parents of Manatsanan Thongphu, or “Nong Oei”, said the girl passed away peacefully. The cause of death was multiple organs failure due to the prolonged deprivation of oxygen experienced by the brain.
The girl’s parents said hospital staff did all they could in treating the girl, who had been in a coma since her admission to hospital after spending more than 6 hours sleeping inside a van.
Because the cause of death was considered ‘unnatural’, the girl’s body had to be sent to forensics.
The girl’s parents said they will leave the prosecution of the van driver and the kindergarteners’ caretaker to the police.
